Secondary School Outreach
(Go 4 Engineering Program)
EWB – Nigeria will maintain an active pre-university outreach program that informs engineers, educators, and the general public about careers in engineering. From the training of young children in Junior Secondary – Senior Secondary School, EWB-Nigeria will be committed to promoting quality, hands-on-training programs for those wishing to engage pre-university audiences in engineering education.
EWB – Nigeria outreach program (Go 4 Engineering) will be designed to introduce students to the basics of science and mathematics learning using engineering design principles, engineering as a career option and how engineering affects and builds our society.
“Go 4 Engineering” Program Goals:
· Increase students interest in engineering careers;
· Introduce students to basic engineering concepts, inquiry learning and other fundamentals that support engineering education;
· Excite students about science and mathematics;
· Provide students with an understanding of the engineering professional and the important role of engineers in the society;
· Improve perceptions of engineering that are also inclusive of women;
· Increase awareness of outreach initiatives among members;
· Prepare counselors, parents and other motivators to appropriately education students about engineering;
How To Achieve
1. Television program
2. Providing resources (books, posters, CDs, etc)
3. Organizing a design contest among students
4. Workshops, Seminar, and training in schools
PROGRAMMES
FRONTIERS OF ENGINEERING
a.k.a ENGINEERING IN DEVELOPMENT
Purpose:
To bring together outstanding engineers from industries, academia and government and provide an opportunity for them to learn about developments, techniques, and pioneering works in fields other than their own.
The meeting will also facilitate the establishment of contacts and collaborations among the next generation of engineering leaders.
It is going to be a symposium for 3 days in which there will be a presentation of talks on topics in engineer in development. It will deal with people’s current work.
Sponsorship:
Sponsorship is going to be by government organizations, industries, and organization. Papers delivered will be published; the symposium will take place annually.
SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS PROGRAMME
Purpose:
Outreach to higher institutions of learning to transform them into a sustainable environment. This involves forming partnership and chapter to develop a self sustaining campus.
SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY PROGRAMME
Purpose:
This is our humanitarian outreach to communities. This involves projects in water, energy, waste management, etc in under-privileged communities. This is also a partnership project.
EXPANDING THE FRONTIER
ENGINEERING CONFERENCE
Purpose:
This brings professional in the field of engineering between the age of 30 – 45 years to discuss and share their experiences and projects that has broaden the borders of engineering in Nigeria.
PUBLICATIONS
This includes books, CDs, newsletters, and magazine.
RESOURCE
CENTER
The resource center is to be named after the man/organization who would pay for the building and everything there in.
The resource center will have 20 auditorium/conference centre, office blocks, library, internet services, and a studio.
